- Thomas McCarthy, The Irish Times
Critical Responses to 'A Small Psalter'
His vision is at once profoundly spiritual and profoundly humanitarian … He is exactly the kind of writer that people should read as an antidote to the superficiality of our age.
- Jack Harte, Introduction to "A Small Psalter"
He can see beyond a figure in front of him to profound inner depths … He is as acutely aware of the pain of living and loss of faith as he is of the world’s joys and delights.
- Danny Sullivan, "The Merton Journal"
These are poems that hold the reader spellbound in thought, rhythms, imagery and language … There are many, almost cinematic, pieces, precisely and sparely presented, leaving indelible images in the reader’s mind with their calm empathy, the quiet effectiveness of the music and the language.
- John F. Deane, "The Irish Catholic"
Grounded in people, places and the passing of time.
- Kevin O'Gorman, "The Furrow"
The joyous celebration of the known and the awe of the unknowable.
- Niamh Nic Ghabhann, "Poetry Ireland Review"
This is religious poetry, not in any crabbed or confessional way, but with a catholic expansiveness and generous embrace.’
- Joseph Kavanagh, "Doctrine and Life"
